Burn a freebie on a question and it earns you nothing in the league — even if it was one of the 20 hardest of the night.
Different hosts write wildly different questions, so raw scores would never be comparable. Before a single league point is awarded, our AI judges rate every question in every event on a 1–100 difficulty scale. Here's what they weigh.
A question about a household name scores low. A question about someone only three people in the room have heard of scores high.
Questions that require genuine depth — orbital mechanics, obscure statutes, deep-cut discographies — are rated above general-knowledge fare.
Hometown knowledge shouldn't inflate a score. Questions that are obvious in one city and impossible in another get calibrated for fairness.
Current events are weighed by how much coverage they actually got. Front-page news rates lower than the story buried on page nine.
Multiple choice hands you the answer. Fill-in-the-blank, multi-part answers, and lateral-thinking questions climb the scale from there.
